Forests are disappearing rapidly in many places now.
The Amazon Rainforest, Germany’s the Black Forest, day by day trees across the world are dying. Thanks to global warming, over-farming and deforestation, we’re slowly killing the planet.
But Costa Rica is changing things for the better.
The country working to change their environment for the better. Costa Rica is a leader in biodiversity, sustainability, and environmental protections. The government trying to completely remove fossil fuels by 2050, however, some think that is a little far-fetched.
Costa Rica’s first lady Claudia Dobles hopes that their changes can bring positivity surrounding the environment. She says that their rainforest growth will combat the “sense of negativity and chaos” that surrounds talking about global warming. Instead of worrying, she says “We need to start providing answers.”
Their aim is huge, over the past 30 years Costa Rica has doubled its forest cover. This will have a great effect on the country’s environment.
The changes are very helpful, like, air will be cleaner, the animal life will thrive, and carbon dioxide levels will decrease.
Currently, forests cover over half the country’s landmass. But, it wasn’t always that way.The President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, says that climate change is “the greatest task of our generation.
” He hopes that his country’s progress will give a positive message and will inspire other nations to do more.
Costa Rica is world leaders in forest regrowth, and hopefully, other countries will follow in their impressive footsteps. However, the University of Tokyo researcher Robert Blasiak thinks that their work could help on an international scale. “Taking a closer look at what Costa Rica has accomplished in the past 30 years maybe just the impetus needed to spur real change on a global scale.”
