A surgeon has been dubbed as a hero after a picture of him sleeping on the hospital floor following seven surgeries without a break went viral.

It was a busy day at Longgang Central Hospital in Shenzhen, China, when Dr. Dai Yu performed 7 operations in a row without catching a break.

Following the challenging procedures, the doctor sat on the floor of the hospital and fell asleep. That’s when someone took a picture of him and posted it on social media where the doctor was dubbed a hero.

Despite all the praise, Dr. Yu, who is the deputy director of the hospital’s Orthopaedic Department, remains humble and claims he only performed his duty.

As Yu explained in an interview with Longgang Channel, he had 10 surgeries pending to be performed on the day the photo was taken and he just wanted to take a 10-minute break before continuing with the eighth one. What he didn’t know, however, was that his tired body would take over and make him fall asleep.

Meanwhile, his colleague took a picture of him and shared it on social media.

After Dr. Yu woke up from the short powernap, he finished all pending surgeries before finally being able to head home at 9 pm.

As the picture went viral in China, social media users thanked the doctor for his selfless actions.

“I was moved to tears by this doctor’s commitment to taking care of his patients. I want to thank all doctors for serving people at all times,” someone wrote.

“Chinese doctors are already the best! Well done,” another one suggested.

Dr. Yu, however, remained humble and claimed it was his responsibility to make sure his patients get treated and recover as soon as possible.
