Dog owners in Seville can face hefty fines for not carrying disinfectant to wash away their pets’ urine.
Officers are to trial the new rule for one month after residents complained about the strong smell of dog urine filling the streets in the Spanish city.
Authorities will also hand out hefty fines for dog owners who do not use disinfectant after their pet has peed.
Seville is following Almeria City, which has required dog owners to carry a vinegar and water solution since July.
The stench of dog defecation is widespread across the country with many cities and towns taking great pains to solve the problem.
Other towns even hired private poo detectives while the Torrelodones city installed a nine-foot inflatable poo to stress the issue.
In the city of La Coruna, DNA testing was also brought in to look for owners responsible and then charge them for the DNA analysis fees.
In Madrin, they used remote control cars shaped like feces to chase down offending dog owners, with the message: “Don’t leave me, pick me up!”
Pet owners in Seville can face £30 to £80 but may increase to over £900.
One internet user commented: “They should enforce the “clean your dog’s poop” rule first. Nobody likes to step on sh I t and stink all day.”
Another wrote: “The 900 fine sounds reasonable. We should bring this in here! The DNA testing to prove the offender’s should ago be brought in – confiscate the dog!? It all sounds good!”
A third said: “They rinse with water in HK. Helpful for pee. However they stand there with paper until the dogs pops on st and then use the paper to grab it. Why not shove the paper under its ass beforehand. There is a reason people take shoes off before entering home here and that is the main reason.”
