26-year-old Catherine Gates is a police worker from Blandford Forum, Dorset. The mother revealed that her eleven-month-old daughter Annabelle has become obsessed with Amazon Echo after watching her three-year-old brother Lucas playing with the gadget for hours.
She said that her first word was “Alexa”.
The mother told SWNS: “We started using it with the kids to play nursery rhymes and Baby Shark, which Annabelle loves. Lucas worked out how to use it himself and Annabelle always copies him.”
“But it’s definitely not what we expected her first word to be — she’s such a modern baby.”
“We’ve been battling for her to say ‘mummy’ or ‘daddy’ but she just went in a completely different direction. She’s the definition of a modern-day baby. We were just in shock.”
The mother says Annabelle even said “Alexa” when she was getting baptized.
The 29-year-old father, Liam said that he was left shocked as she didn’t say “mama” or “dada” as he expected her to say.
A family member gifted the device to the couple as a Christmas gift and they used it for playing nursery rhymes.
The mother says her daughter can’t activate the device by herself and she is hoping she’ll learn another word soon.
But for now, she keeps blurting the word out.
She said: “Now when we take her out she just belts it out. She’s become completely obsessed with the word.”
“It’s got to the point now that when she wakes up from sleep or a nap she’ll start shouting ‘Alexa’ from her cot. It helps us to know she has woken up.”
