A man lost almost half of his body weight, thanks to a little step taken by his personal trainer.
Darren McClintock, nicknamed Dibsy, was barred from his favorite takeaway spots in the town by his trainer, Mike Hind.
As a result of the ban, Dibsy lost a whopping 266 lbs in just 11 months.
He has now started a crowdfunding campaign to help raise funds for his surgery needed to cut off the extra skin that is left after his near-impossible transformation.
Once Dibsy made a serious and steadfast decision of turning his life around, he handed himself over completely to his trainer and vigorously followed all the instructions, especially the ones regarding diet and eating habits.
Dibsy came to Hind with a mission to lose around 120 lbs but the latter motivated him to a better, and obviously more demanding, goal of 266 lbs.
Speaking to LADbible, Dibsy said: “We’ve got a little over five weeks to lose a stone (14 lb.) to meet that 20st (280 lb.) target.
“It’s been very hard – like, to the point where I’ve just wanted to walk out a give up, but obviously I’ve got these people around me who keep me motivated, keep me going.”
He said he’s started to feel the benefits, adding: “I’m living life now! It’s just a matter of keeping going with it.”
The dedicated trainer showed up at every single one of the fast food spots where Dibsy used to eat and handed them flyers, reading: ‘Save Dibsy. Obesity is Killing Him. Do Not Serve This Man.’
Dibsy is now half the size he was before his transformation but his skin is the same, and he now needs a surgery to remove that excess skin.
Unfortunately for Dibsy, he couldn’t get NHS funding for his surgery. To raise the funds needed, Dibsy and Hind are running a crowdfunding campaign.
Speaking of the required funds, Hind said: “We’ve done this our way, without going through the gastric bypass surgery. But the [NHS] funding was for both, so they can’t split the funding.”
As an estimate, Hind and Dibsy have saved the NHS around $37,000 by skipping the gastric bypass surgery.
Hind said: “It’s £15,000 ($18,400) we’ve asked for – I don’t know how much we’ll need, it will be more than that but we’ve asked to try and raise £15,000 ($18,400) so we can make a start.”
As of now, the campaign has raised $1,530 of the target. Fortunately, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, the hosts of ‘This Morning,’ said they’d contribute from their own pockets.
Hind said he used a natural plan to help Dibsy lose weight.
He said: “There’s no shakes, there’s no pills, he hasn’t taken any weight loss supplements. He’s simply eaten 3,000 calories a day – I’ve provided every meal and he’s just eaten it – and he’s just trained. That’s it.
“You see all these people on Instagram saying, ‘Take this shake, you’ll lose this weight, blah blah blah’, but Dibsy tried everything before I took him, he had nowhere to turn and I was literally the last chance saloon for him.
“All I had to do was make him believe in himself, make him work hard and realize that if you put the effort in you get the results. It’s not rocket science.”
Hind has been ranked the best personal trainer across the UK for the last two consecutive years by the National Fitness Awards but he maintains that he owes all his success to Dibsy.
Hind said: “Of every client I’ve ever trained – I’ve got professional footballers, boxers, celebrities – Dibsy is by far the hardest working human I have ever met in my life.
“There’s been times where he’s cried, times where he’s been sick, but he’s never, ever, ever once given up.”
On the other hand, Dibsy says his miraculous transformation is totally due to the dedicated and sincere efforts of his trainer. Speaking about how helpful Hind had been in the whole process, he said: “I need to say a personal thank you to Mike. He’s saved my life.”
