Avocado is now people’s favorite due to its versatility.
You can put it in just about anything! From eggs to salads, and even on your morning toast.
Avocado is a great source of Vitamins C, E, K, and B-6. It also contains riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, folate, potassium, and magnesium. It also provides lutein, beta-carotene, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. People who are on a diet love to eat this fruit because almost all of its calories come from fat.
What if avocados are bigger? Sometimes one avocado is not enough, and someone knows that and growing big avocados for you!
The avocado is an evergreen tree and is part of the Lauraceae family. Farmers earn very good money from this versatile fruit. In Australia, you can find here probably the biggest avocados in the world.
They are called the “Avozillas!”
These avozillas weigh around 3-pounds, and they are four times bigger from regular-sized avocados! You can get them for around $9 each. The Guardian Australia revealed that these avozillas taste like regular avocados. The only difference is that they are a bit softer compared to regular avocados.
Originally, these biggest avocados come from South Africa. However, there is a farming family in Queensland who are also growing them.
Farmer David Groves and his family are the ones who grow the Avozillas. Groves said, “They’re massive fruit… quite a lot larger than your average avocado.” He added, “There is a nursery we buy different trees off and when we were planting a bunch of avocados 10 years ago they gave us one as a trial.
And after about four or five years, we tried a few of the fruit and thought we’d give them a go. So we planted a small block of about just under 400 trees. They’re coming up to about four years and this is their first production.”
They have a total of 400 avocado trees while there are 2,000 more planted by other farmers in Bundaberg. They know that these giant avocados will be more popular when they will be available in the market. They are surely going to be people’s favorite when they hit the grocery stores because supply cannot meet the demand.
But right now, you can already find them in specialty stores in Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth.
Groves said, that the big avocado will not affect the flavor or the creaminess that we love in regular avocados. He said, “I’m pleased to say they’re just as buttery as a Shepard or a Hass. Keep buying avocados, they’re very healthy and very tasty.”
