People are often taught at a young age to keep our siblings safe, especially the little ones.
In most cases, we just react to what’s going on without thinking too much of the dangers around us.
When a kidnapper tried to take 22-month-old Owen Wright, his older brother, 10-year-old Brenden, and sister, 8-year-old Delicia, didn’t think twice and saved their little brother!
The kids were playing in a park outside of the house of their babysitter in a small town of Sprague, which only has a population of only 500 people.
A man then started talking to them before grabbing little Owen and running away. He claimed to have been a babysitter and acted good to the children.
Recalling the incident, Delicia said: “He said he’s nice to kids and he’d been babysitting for a long time.”
But what the kidnapper didn’t expect was for the baby’s brave brother and sister to save him after he grabbed their brother.
CCTV cameras caught the chase. The footage shows the man with brave Delicia and Brenden following him.
Delicia said she screamed right away to get people’s attention to the kidnapper. And it worked.
Two teenagers, Isaac Yow and Andrew Crane, heard Delicia’s screams and started to follow the kidnapper.
“When you pickup there’s a girl running behind him, he’s running down an alleyway with a kid, things don’t look right,” Andrew expressed.
Isaac also said: “I don’t consider myself a hero. I just consider myself a person doing the right thing.”
The man placed Owen down and took off. He managed to get away and the little boy was okay.
When asked if he was scared while running after the kidnapper, Brenden said ‘No.’
The reason why Brenden wanted to get his baby brother back so bad is not exactly what you might’ve expected.
“I was chasing him because — so I can get him back for my cousin’s birthday party.”
A child’s honesty is the best.
The kidnapper was identified as a 15-year-old boy and it turned out that both Isaac and Andrew knew him.
Dorothy Giddings, Isaac’s grandmother, said she also heard Delicia’s screams and credited the girl for saving her brother’s life.
“I told that little girl, I said, ‘Honey, you did exactly what you needed to do, scream your head off.’ That’s what saved that baby. Her screaming and us running.”
