A funeral director has gone viral after revealing that she had quit her job in order to dedicate her time and resources to become a professional mermaid.

As weird as that may sound, being a mermaid is apparently a real job that 28-year-old Jasmine Seales wanted to take on despite being a well-established director.

According to Basingstoke-based Jasmine, she knew she wanted to be a mermaid after seeing one deliver a stunning performance on the Isle of Wight during Bestival.

“There was a girl there doing displays and it just looked really interesting. I got speaking to her and I thought ‘why not give it a go?’ It has been a life-changing decision,” she explained.

As Jasmine revealed, her previous job often made her cry, whereas being a mermaid provides her not only with the fun associated with swimming and wearing cool costumes but also with a pay rate of up to $120 per hour.

“I’ll do it until it puts me in a wheelchair. I train once or twice a week and just being in the water in general really helps [preserve] my body in check,” Jasmine added.

“When training, you have to learn how to control your breathing and your heart rate to be able to perform underwater for prolonged periods of time.

“At first, it feels pretty unnatural, but the more you do it you become used to it. It has just been so much fun and it’s a really creative thing to do.”

Mermaid performances have started gaining popularity globally after kicking off in the U.S. during recent years.
