Seeing little animals getting hurt is one of the saddest things.
Recently, the same happened with a tiny koala who fell from a tree and was given a tiny cast.
A photo of baby Koala wearing a tiny arm cast was shared by Werribee Open Range Zoo and it went viral. Joey fell from a tree at a logging plantation in Melbourne, Australia and broke her arm.
The Koala recently lost her mom and was then handed into the folks at Werribee Open Range Zoo who took care of her.
The koala mom and Joey fell off the tree at the Victorian bluegum plantation, the mother was severely injured and was later put down. An animal carer rescued the orphaned Joey and brought to the veterinarians of Werribee Zoo.
”It was really touch and go when she was brought to us,” said Werribee Vet Nurse Jess Rice. “She was just at the stage where she would have been starting to poke her head out of mom’s pouch. Joeys that size don’t have a good survival rate in care.”
The X-ray revealed that the baby Koala has a fractured arm, so vets put on a tiny cast on her limb. They fed the marsupial milk replacement through a syringe and fitter her with the cast to aid her recovery.
”It will be more than a year before she’s old enough to be released into the wild, so she needs to be with a carer with the resources to take care of her for that long,” Ms. Rice said.
”Bonding and company is really important to a joey of that age. Koala joeys are often given toys to provide comfort and teach them how to hang off the fur like they would with their mother.”
