On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives passed three bills in favor of Hong Kong protestors.
Three bills have stimulated threats of retaliation from China.
According to the Associated Press, the bills were passed on majority votes that included China’s indulgence into Hong Kong’s partial independence.
One of the bills states that China will no longer be able to intrude into Hong Kong’s proceedings.
The second bill mentions that the US secretary of Hong Kong will review the annual review of the state’s special economic and trade status. The third bill includes that US weapons will not be used against protestors.
All three bills got bipartisan support. Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker, stated that the passing of the bill is a step towards standing up for human rights.
She further added that if America is incapable of speaking for human rights in China, then it will lose all the moral authority to stand for human rights in any part of the world.
Pelosi also applauded the protestors who are continually fighting for their rights. She also addressed the Chinese government as a coward and held them responsible for not respecting the law.
Hong Kong was a British colony that reunited with China in 1997 but has special treatment in terms of customs, sanctions, trade, law enforcement, and more.
This special treatment has also benefited China in many ways. The latest bills will condemn China to indulge in Hong Kong affairs.
Chinese foreign minister made a statement on Wednesday, where he stated that the bill exposes the hypocrisy of some people in the US on democracy and human rights.
Their intention is to weaken Hong Kong’s prosperity to sustain China’s development. The intention of these bills is to give the required independence to Hong Kong and condemn China from making constant interference in Hong Kong’s affair.
