A vandal who keyed a Tesla in broad daylight has been traced by the police – thanks to a helpful clue provided by the social media users.
The vandal willfully keyed a new Tesla Model 3 but he was luckily caught on camera.
Justice Frimpong, the owner of the car, was distressed after finding out how an unknown person had damaged his property without any reason. But as soon as he shared the incident on social media, he was relieved.
After going through the recording of the Tesla motion sensor camera, Frimpong posted two photos on his Twitter account to make the incident known to the local community.
It was when some brilliant Twitter users gave him a clue about the position and usage of several cameras in and outside the Tesla Model 3.
They advised Frimpong to check all the clips and footages in the hope of finding one that can throw light on the person’s identity.
Fortunately, one camera had captured the vehicle registration plate of the miserable being.
Frimpong had got what he wanted – a valid and important clue that could lead him to the troublemaker. It was how the police were able to find the man, who probably believed that nobody was watching him at the time.
“With [the license plate] they were able to find him,” Frimpong said while explaining how the police approached the rogue man.
Describing the man’s first reaction and his failed attempt of denying the charge on him, Frimpong added: “At first, he couldn’t remember being there, but when the cops told him they had the footage, it suddenly jogged his memory.”
The man couldn’t defend himself anymore so he admitted his fault and asked for forgiveness.
“He then confessed and ‘apologized,’” Frimpong said. “So, in the end, I talked to my insurance, and he will pay for the damages.”
