Rob is helping people with learning difficulties to make a career in music for around 17 years. He is helping them sing, play instruments and even rap.
He said: “What I love about working with people and music is seeing the joy, confidence and happiness music has the ability to bring out in people.”
27-year-old Alex Johnsen is one of Rob’s pupils. Alex, who has Down’s Syndrome, performed a cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” with his teacher.
The video instantly went viral and people absolutely loved the cover. Rob said about Alex: “Alex is definitely the lead singer. My job is to sit back and support him and help him to focus. Almost immediately when Alex and I started working together, I recognised that there was so much potential within this guy.”
“Since Alex and I made the “Chasing Cars” video late last year, which went completely viral and blew our minds, others that I work with have expressed interest in making video of their own.”
Alex also praises Rob and says that he is not only his tutor but also his friend. Rob has always helped him and motivated him since the start.
Alex said about his future plans: “My future plan is to go travelling with music, make an album, and live my dream. I feel really excited about the things that I’ve done.”
“You always have to believe in yourself – the world is with you.”
Rob says they choose the songs that the group play mutually. He has been helping people with learning difficulties to pursue a career in music for the last 17 years.
We wish him and his pupils all the best!
