The former FLOTUS Michelle Obama has been nominated for Grammy years after her husband, Barack, received two prestigious awards.
Mrs. Obama snagged the nomination for her memoir Becoming which was converted into an audiobook following the success of the hard-copy version.
In July, the best-selling author has also been named one of the ‘World’s Most Admired Women’ by the YouGov’s study, displacing actress Angelina Jolie.
Now, as the 61st Annual Grammy Awards approached, the 55-year-old also has a chance to take away her first-ever Grammy.
In her book, the former first lady focuses on sharing her experiences and presenting her life story. Besides critics directed at Donald Trump, Obama also speaks out about the couple’s infertility challenges and admits that both of their daughters, Malia and Sasha, were conceived through in vitro fertilization.
‘Becoming’ also describes Obama’s upbringing on Chicago’s South Side as well as her experiences at Whitney Young and Princeton University. She also speaks of straddling social and economic worlds through the eyes of a child and a young adult.
The memoir also takes readers on her journey of becoming a lawyer, mother of two girls, wife of former President Barack Obama, and her eight years in the White House.
Obama shares personal revelations about racism, having a miscarriage, and about the false rumor that her husband wasn’t a U.S. citizen.
Just two weeks after the book was released, Becoming already shattered one record as it became the fastest-selling book of 2018 by selling over 2 million copies.
“I’m not aware, in my personal experience with Penguin Random House, that we ever sold 10 million units of a memoir,” Penguin Random House’s chief executive, Markus Dohle, admitted.
Following the success of the hard-copy version, the memoir was also made into an audiobook, granting Obama a pathway to the Grammy award.
