Students and parents have been left outraged and upset after their school came up with the decision to allow biologically-speaking male students who identify as women into the girls’ locker room to be more “inclusive.
”
The Palatine High School from Illinois came up with the controversial decision after the board voted in its favor in order to allow all students to be “treated and supported in a manner consistent with their gender identity.”
The change was first mandated by the Department of Education, whereas a transgender schoolgirl Nova Maday filed a lawsuit against the school after they refused to let her into the girls’ locker room and bathrooms.
While the school attempted to make a compromise by creating new unisex bathrooms and locker rooms, Maday didn’t welcome this change and expressed the need for the school to let her be in the presence of other girls as they are changing.
After the school’s decision, the transgender student said she was “ecstatic” before expressing that it’s a “great step forward” and promising that there will be “many more steps.”
As for other female students, however, they are less than impressed with the ruling whereas many of them believe their privacy has been invaded and compromised.
One of them is Julia Burca who broke into tears as she spoke out about the matter to Daily Herald and explained she has to get changed “multiple times, naked, in front of the other students in the locker room” because she’s a swimmer.
While she admitted she understands Maday’s point of view, Julia insisted the school should fulfill its “obligation to all students” and listen to everyone and not just the protesting minority.
