A famous Australian critic, poet, and broadcaster Clive James has passed away at the age of 80 after a grueling battle with cancer.
Mr. James, who lived in the United Kingdom for nearly six decades, has died at his home in Cambridge on November 24, 2019.
According to the family, the TV legend who ran The Clive James Show was “surrounded by his family and books” as he succumbed to his disease.
The father-of-two was diagnosed with leukemia ten years ago, whereas his health gradually declined over the last decade.
In 2016, the much-admired author joked he was feeling “embarrassed” since it had been over six years since he revealed he was diagnosed with cancer and he was still kicking.
Following the funeral that took place in Cambridge, the family released the following statement:
“Clive died almost ten years after his first terminal diagnosis, and one month after he laid down his pen for the last time.
“He endured his ever-multiplying illnesses with patience and good humor, knowing until the last moment that he had experienced more than his fair share of this ‘great, good world.’
“He was grateful to the staff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for their care and kindness, which unexpectedly allowed him so much extra time. His family would like to thank the nurses of the Arthur Rank Hospice at Home team for their help in his last days, which allowed him to die peacefully and at home, surrounded by his family and his books.”
Paying their respects to the TV legend were also hundreds of celebrities and political figures who had been inspired by James throughout his career.
