Parents of an 18-month-old baby who passed away were left in tears after cruel thieves stole decorative glass pebbles from their son’s grave.
Young Aasam Laher had passed away from a rare genetic disorder before he could celebrate his second birthday with his parents.
To commemorate his cheerful spirit, they came up with a beautiful grave decorated with blue glass pebbles.
One day, however, the mum couldn’t believe her eyes when she visited the grave only to see that all of the decorations were stolen.
“How low can a person go to do something like this?” mother Shenaz Daji-Laher said after finding her son’s grave vandalized.
“My father-in-law goes to the cemetery every day as that is where my mother-in-law is buried too, and he just happened to mention that the stones have been missing for a few days.
“At first he thought we had bought them home to wash as this is something we do quite often. My first reaction was disbelief. I couldn’t believe someone could actually steal from a grave never mind a child’s. I think I am more angry now than anything.”
After the theft, the mother refused to report the incident to the authorities because she believes that they wouldn’t do anything about it except upset her even more.
She also addressed the thieves whom she condemned for their “vile and malicious act.”
“I don’t know how you can sleep at night knowing that you have robbed a little baby’s grave. This is nothing but a vile and malicious act,” she said.
