Using public restroom is not always a good and clean experience as many times we have to face an unpleasant atmosphere there.
But when there is no option to pee especially when you are out for a long time then we have to use a public toilet.
We often cover the toilet seat with toilet paper to avoid microbes from getting onto our skin. But some research recommends not to do this as there are many disadvantages to it.
As we know there are bacteria everywhere, bathroom walls, doorknobs, and even onto the toilet paper rolls. Bacteria multiply as the paper absorbs moisture very well in the environment. When you cover the contaminated surface with the toilet paper then you are covering it with even more contaminated material.
The toilet seats are not as dirty as we think because the most touched surface has the highest risk of being infected. People mostly touch doorknobs, sinks, and toilet paper rolls with their unwashed hands, that put additional microbes on them. The toilet seat rarely comes in contact with our skin as many people wipe them off with a napkin before sitting on them.
If you still want to put toilet papers on the seat before sitting on it then you can carry hygienic tissue with you to cover it. Hygienic tissues probably decrease the number of bacteria that come into contact with your skin. There is no use of covering the seat with toilet papers which are already contaminated with the same microbes.
Well, it is not easy to stay hygienic while using public washrooms as our hands touch many contaminated things. But still, you can follow simple hygienic rules to protect yourself from bacteria.
You should wash your hands properly and not only rinsing with water. Apply soap or sanitizer in your hands for at least 20-30 seconds then wash it.
Also, don’t touch faucet after washing your hands. And use a napkin to prevent microbes from getting back onto your hands.
You should not touch anything in the washroom after washing your hands and never touch your face, eyes or nose before you wash them.
