Greenovia dodrantalis are also known as mountain rose.
The blue-green succulents have been seen on Instagram and Pinterest over the past few years, but a rare pink version of the mountain rose was shared and it looks even more like a rosebud in the light!
There are many succulents that look a little like flowers but there is one rare succulent you may not have heard of before that looks just like a rose.
Greenovia dodrantalis, aka the “mountain rose” succulent that have highly packed leaves arranged in layers much like a rose’s petals. A rose’s blooms fade after a few days but these succulents will keep on looking fabulous as long they get what they need.
This plant was originated in the Canary Islands and it prefers warm, sunny weather and doesn’t require much water. It normally works well as an indoor plant, but you can get it outdoors as well.
A full-grown mountain rose grows six inches in height. The pups or offsets produced by it are smaller versions of itself that are attached to the main plant by thin stems. Sometimes small yellow flowers are also produced by these mountain roses which result in seeds.
It is hard to find mountain roses and the pink variety is rare. If you grow these succulents from seeds then it may be good for you to sell it later.
Greenovia dodrantalis are rarely found in shops, so it is a great decision to buy them as seeds and growing them from home. It can take up to two years before your plant develops a rose-like appearance, but once mature, the plant can produce pups (or offsets) which you can divide away to create new plants.
