The video features the boys in a lot of Oxford’s most iconic locations such as the Bodleian library and the Bridge of Sighs. The group is hoping to raise money for Helen & Douglas House which is the oldest children’s hospice in the world.
Rory Naylor, Out of the Blue president, said: “We’re all around university age so we were the right age when the original Frozen came out.
“Obviously we fell in love with the soundtrack as it’s incredible.
“We saw the sequel was coming out this year and so it works in terms of marketability.
“We all went as a group to the cinema to watch Frozen 2 and half of us cried. We loved the songs so it made a lot of sense to cover them this year.”
Rory, 20, is a medicine student in his third year. He explained that the choir is “actually more competitive to get into the group than to get into Oxford University itself.”
He continued: “It’s so competitive.
“It’s a three-round audition process over the first week of term.
“We then have a secret initiation process and then they’re in.
“The initiation is actually quite tame and cute, but it’s very secret.”
Whenever the group forms each year, new members perform for the benefit of Helen & Douglas House.
Rory, from Knighton in Wales, said: “It’s the highlight of the year for me. All of the proceeds from this single go to Helen & Douglas House.
“Kids dance and move around, they’re always really cheerful. It’s lovely.”
The group, which has previously made an appearance in Britain’s Got Talent and Pitch Battle, is also known as a safe space for bi, gay, queer, and trans men at Oxford University.
Rory said: “As a queer man myself, it’s important to me as president to continue representing the community and making content that would show us off a bit.
“A lot of modern acapella is quite serious and Out of the Blue tries to push the boundaries in terms of being an Oxford University society.
“We don’t want to come across as nerdy Oxford students.
“We want to come across as accepting people regardless of how they identify, regardless of background. We try to be as inclusive and as fun as possible.”
The Frozen medley has already generated a lot of positive buzz and Rory expects to get feedback from the ones who made the original films.
Rory said: “We’ve got a contact with Chris Burke who directed Frozen and Frozen 2 so we’re waiting to hear what he thinks.
“If Idina Menzel, who sings Elsa’s parts, saw it, now that would be the dream.”
