A school nativity play took a hilariously turn after the child cast as Joseph started pretending to be a pirate instead and threw baby Jesus into his crib before shouting “Land ahoy.
”
A clip shows four-year-old Charlie Hill sitting at the center of the stage wearing a Santa hat. He was with his classmates for the nativity play at Happy Days Nursery and Preschool in Bristol.

Charlie’s proud mother Ashleigh Garland, 27, was watching the whole thing which pleased Charlie no end as he was grinning from ear to ear. So happy was he, in fact, that he got carried away and forgot that he was supposed to play Joseph.
At one point when Charlie is handed a blue notepad, he talks to his teachers during the songs and is pretending that he’s examining a treasure map.
Another scene shows the pirate-loving boy holding a doll representing baby Jesus as his classmates sang carols. Without warning, Charlie suddenly chucks baby Jesus into a nearby basket, picks it up, and holds it above his head before shouting: “Land ahoy!”
Ashleigh, a self-employed cleaner who was with Charlie’s grandma Kath, was filming the whole thing and “laughed my heart out” with the epic way her son lost focus.
She explained that Charlie’s obsession with everything “pirate” obviously wasn’t blunted by the thought of a play.
She added: “I have no idea why he suddenly decided he was a pirate!
“He wasn’t into them at all beforehand, and he then took this nativity as the opportunity to come out as a pirate!
“Charlie has such an active imagination. During the play, I think he thought the basket was a steering wheel, and that he was sailing a ship.
“I thought it was so funny – and the school was great about it!
“He’s just a mischievous little boy!”
Charlie is so into pirates that he dresses as one every day, complete with eye patch and sword, and has a pirate tent in his room.
