A doctor was found guilty of falsely diagnosing kids with cancer in order to force their scared parents into availing private treatment.

Dr. Mina Chowdhury, who worked for the NHS Forth Valley in Scotland while running his own company called Meras Healthcare, has come up with fake diagnoses with the purpose of tricking their parents into purchasing treatment at his firm.

As the watchdog ruled, the “financially motivated and dishonest” pediatrician deceived, lied to, and manipulated distressed parents.

“We are going to have a serious conversation. We are going to have a conversation that all parents dread. We are going to talk about the C word,” the doctor allegedly told one of the affected parents after sending their daughter out of the room.

“I was blown away that my daughter had cancer. It’s something that had to be dealt with straightaway,” the parent, who chose to remain anonymous, added.

“When I asked him to refer me back to the NHS he refused because they wouldn’t stick by him so I didn’t think it was an option to get tests done by the NHS. I seriously believed she was that ill. I didn’t question him.”

Fortunately, the parents took their daughter to another medic who concluded that Chowdhury’s diagnosis was false and that there were no signs of cancer.

As the mother added, Chowdhury suggested a private treatment without referring her to the NHS.

Following all the evidence gathered, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service ruled against the pediatrician and claimed he falsely diagnosed several children because his business was experiencing “financial pressure.”

“The Tribunal has made findings that Dr Chowdhury failed to provide good clinical care to Patients A, B and C, including findings of fact that he diagnosed cancerous conditions without proper investigation and for which he recommended unnecessary and expensive testing in London,” James Newton-Price, a Tribunal chair, said.

“He tried to persuade Parents A, B and C to pay for unnecessary tests in relation to unwarranted cancerous diagnoses.

“The Tribunal is driven to the inescapable conclusion that Dr Chowdhury acted as it has found in order to increase the income or reduce the losses of his business and that all his actions were therefore financially motivated.”
