According to a recent announcement from Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has made a total of $1 billion in sales worldwide.
They also revealed some stats showing that the latest iteration of the game is the most played Cod game ever, leaving Infinite Warfare, Black Ops 4 and WWII in the dust.
A recent press release by Activision said that Modern Warfare has “outpaced” all the previous versions of their multiplayer games by the number of hours it has been played online as well as its average daily players.
This is something really impressive, keeping in mind that the game has been available for just 50 days.
To give a broader picture of the game’s massive success, Activision revealed that the players of Modern Warfare have collectively played 500 million hours of the game in 300 million multiplayer matches.
The stats include the game played over PS4, PC and Xbox One.
General Manager and Executive Vice President of Call of Duty, Byron Beede, said: “The momentum for Modern Warfare from day one has been incredible.
“Players are having a great time and are continuing to engage across the multiplayer experience at the highest level in years.
“We’re also seeing new franchise highs for this console generation in hours played, hours per player and average daily players.
“It’s great to see the fan response to the hard work from our development teams led by Infinity Ward. Players are having a great time, and there’s much more to come as we continue to deliver new content.”
Activision has not made it clear whether or not they have accounted for Ghosts, Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare while computing those stats.
However, it cannot be denied that the release of Modern Warfare was the biggest unveiling event of any Cod game this generation.
The game made an incredible $600 million within three days of going for sale worldwide.
This is definitely just the start of the career of Modern Warfare as Infinity Ward and Activision are continuously adding more features to the game.
And, this is just the first ‘season’ of the game.
On December 18, they introduced a lot of new things like a new playing mode, two new maps, a ton of new Special Operations missions and a lot of auxiliary stuff.
It won’t be wrong to say that Call of Duty is once again on the top of the gaming industry.
Just imagine what the volume of the game would be if the much-awaited Battle Royale mode of the game rolls out at the start of 2020.
