A family found an owl in their Christmas tree who had been hiding there for over a week in their Georgia home.
10-year-old India Newman spotted a tiny owl in the family’s Christmas tree who had been roosting there for over a week.
She was left stunned and told her mother Kate McBride Newman about the owl.
The family was terrified when India told them about the owl with tears in her eyes. Kate told CNN: “She comes very dramatically into the dining room and goes, ‘Mama, that ornament scared me.'”
Initially, she thought India was talking about the ornaments but when she saw the owl in the Christmas tree, she was also left shocked.
The family left the windows and doors open during the night to help the owl find a way to leave but the owl didn’t budge straight away.
The family then contacted the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) to remove the owl from their home.
A Wildlife Tech told them that it might be hiding there for over a week before they found out.
The Chattahoochee Nature Center managed to catch the bird and released it into the wild.
Kate wrote about the incident on Facebook: “He ate some chicken!!! You can see the plate in the tree if you scroll down a bit in the pic.
When I peeked around the tree to check on him, he hopped back up to his perch on the higher branch.”
“[They] gave him fluids and food … and put him in a crate with 2 mice. We are going to try to release him at twilight.”
Kate praised the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) for removing the owl from their home. Kate later thanked the owl for stopping by.
She wrote: “God’s peace to you as you make your new home outside our home. We hope to see you again. . . And to all a good night.”
