Greta Thunberg, the young eco-warrior who speaks her mind without a second doubt, has slammed the Australian government for not taking political action on the on-going bushfire crisis.
As the 16-year-old activist said, the link between “climate crisis and increased extreme weather events and nature disasters” is still not established by the government despite the evidence at hand.
“Not even catastrophes like these seem to bring any political action. How is this possible?” Ms. Thunberg wrote in her Twitter post.
“Because we still fail to make the connection between the climate crisis and increased extreme weather events and nature disasters like the #AustraliaFires That’s what has to change. Now.”
In her post, the teen shared an article by 9News that showed footage of the “ring of fire” that has surrounded Sydney.
As one young local who shares tips about the Blue Mountains region where the fires have spread told the outlet, “these fires are unprecedented.”
“This is bigger than 2009 and 2013. This is the biggest fire Australia has ever seen, and the Blue Mountains has ever seen,” 24-year-old Bryant said in an interview with 9 News.
Thunberg’s tweet followed shortly after she was pictured protesting outside the parliament in Sweden following her return home after attending multiple summits and protests around the world.
During her strike in Stockholm, the teen was wielding her signature sign that reads “school strike for climate.”
Later on, she also shared the picture of her protest on Instagram where she wrote: “School strike week 70. Stockholm!”
Finishing her 4-month-long tour inspired by the climate change in style, the 16-year-old returned to her native Sweden on a train after her fierce speech in Turin, Italy, where she suggested that world leaders should be put up against the wall if they continue to refuse to act.
