An elderly cat was reunited with its loving owners on Christmas Eve six years after the feline went missing.
19-year-old Tabs disappeared from the home of Jude and John Kinloch back in 2013 when the family was getting ready to move to another place.
After years of searching for the cat, John and his wife had lost all hope of ever being reunited with Tabs. Nevertheless, just in time for Christmas 2019, the family received a call claiming that their pet was found in a “pitiful” state.
According to Lisa Jones who found Tabs on a side street and alerted Animal Rescue about it, the cat was in a poor condition.
Fortunately, the vets quickly came across its chip and found out it belongs to John Kinloch.
“We couldn’t believe it when we got the phone call. I thought it was some kind of prank at first. Then when she said the cat’s name, Tabs, I knew it wasn’t,” Jude said.
“My husband hasn’t stopped crying since. He was looking at Tabs on his tablet the other day. He still has her on it as his screensaver. He has never changed it. It was like he had been reunited with his best friend.”
As Tabs’ rescuer Lisa added, she initially took the cat home with her because she was feeling sorry for him. She was also ready to keep him until the vets discovered the chip and concluded it belonged to John and Jude.
“My daughter said to me, ‘mum, you must have just made someone’s Christmas. I’m just so happy that he is happy and at home,’” Lisa said.
Following the emotional reunion, Jude and John are making sure to spend as much time with 19-year-old Tabs as they can.
“At 19 years old he’s done well to still be alive, especially given when he has been through. How he has survived, I just have no idea. Maybe he was waiting to see us again. It is just amazing. It really is a Christmas miracle,” Jude said.
