A primary school has been praised all over the internet after ditching all homework over the Christmas holidays in order to allow their students to spend more time with their families.
The officials at Greater Manchester’s Oak Tree Primary School have pleasantly surprised the parents right before Christmas by telling them all books would be taken from students in order to make sure they get a proper break during the festive season.
“Over Christmas we would like your child to focus on these things instead – watch a Christmas movie, spend time with your family and friends, eat food that you love, make somebody laugh or smile, do something for somebody else, visit a favorite place, play a board game, wrap a Christmas present,” their letter wrote.
Following the shocking announcement, parents praised the school for not making children study and think about their grades over Christmas.
“It’s so lovely to encourage children to focus on what’s important this time of year. It allows kids to be kids too and really enjoy their Christmas break,” Lauren Brown, the mum of 6-year-old Oscar who attends the school, said.
“I think more primary schools should follow suit. It really was quite heartwarming to read the letter.”
After the news went viral, plenty of people suggested this idea should be implemented by schools around the world.
“Many schools and even parents nowadays tend to forget that kids are just kids… and while studying is important, family is even more important,” someone suggested.
“I remember spending time with my parents and my lil sister during Christmas school break and those were some of the best memories I keep,” another one said.
