Daryl Collett is a single mom who works two jobs to provide for her three-year-old son, Cash, and “lives paycheck to paycheck.
”
Luckily for her, the part-time waitress received a tip of $1,000.
A few days before the incident, Collett applied to take a week off from work because her son was ill. The leave had left her finances greatly disturbed.
Collett works at a local bank in the weekdays and at Ole’ Chobys in Milledgeville, Georgia on weekends. She said she was worried about her December’s paycheck being short due to the leave.
But Collett was in luck on the Friday before Christmas when a table of eight guests specifically requested to be served by her. The generous guests left a sizable tip for Collett, $1,000 to be exact.
Collet told WBNS that the generosity of the guests gave her tears of joy.
She said: “Literally the best feeling ever I was shocked and happy and like, I’m so emotional. I started crying.
“I live paycheck to paycheck. I’ve been so stressed out with Christmas and knowing that my paycheck is going to be short, so this was a huge blessing.”
Ole’ Chobys wrote on their Facebook page: “Our Daryl Collett got $1000 tip tonight! The table wanted to help someone who could use it, they called yesterday and reserved a table and said, our server must be Daryl.
“She has a little boy name Cash and she works 2 jobs to support her little family! We are so blessed to have her on our staff.
“Merry Christmas to everyone, this is what the season is all about!! Thank you to the table of people who made this possible, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!”
Kayla Currie, general manager of the restaurant, said: “Someone said they saw a similar thing on Facebook and they wanted to do it for someone in need.”
Collett reportedly knows two of the customers. One is from the daycare her son goes to while the other is one of her colleagues at the bank she works.
