New Year brought luck for Disney as Frozen II became the highest-grossing animated movie ever.
Frozen II, a sequel of 2013 movie Frozen, premiered at the Dolby Theater, Hollywood on November 7, 2019.
So far, the movie has managed to make a staggering $1.325 billion at the global box office after its worldwide release on November 22nd.
According to the latest stats from the box office, Frozen II has left Frozen, which totaled $1.281 billion, behind by a whopping margin. It has also overshadowed the $1.243 billion earning Incredibles 2.
The Loin King by Jon Favreau did a business of $1.65 billion at the box office but according to Disney that is not an animation but a live-action remake.
This movie, on the other hand, is totally generated and generally considered by the public as an animated movie.
Currently, Frozen II is among the top three biggest movies of 2019.
The two films bigger than it are also from Disney, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, which brought in $2.79 billion and The Lion King, which did a business of $1.65 billion.
The voice of Princess Anna was done by Kristen Bell whereas Idina Menzel played the voice of Queen Elsa in the latest Frozen sequel.
The movie shows the prominent characters of the story embarking on a new expedition that goes beyond the realm of their homeland Arendelle.
In this journey, Princess Anna also joins her mother, Queen Elsa.
Santino Fontana, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad are among the cast members who were there in the original Frozen movie. In this sequel, the new cast members are Sterling K. Brown and Evan Rachel Wood.
For a little perspective, Frozen II took three weeks to cross $1 billion in global revenue while its predecessor passed the key landmark in a time of 15 weeks.
In 2019, Disney had six movies that grossed above $1 billion. They include Aladdin, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King and Toy Story 4.
Last month, Disney revealed that they have sold tickets amounting to a hefty $10 billion in worldwide sales in 2019.
