An Australian mother revealed her children nearly stepped on a venomous snake while the family was in a forest for a walk.
While the mum and her kids didn’t see or feel anything unusual during their outing, the woman was shocked after returning home and checking the pictures they’ve made only to spot a venomous snake inches away from her kids.
The incident occurred in a forest near the Mitta Mitta River in Victoria when the mother decided to take a picture of her kids walking in front of her.
As seen in the photo, however, the kids weren’t alone. Just inches away from them was an eastern brown snake, one of the world’s most venomous snake species.
After the incident, Snake Catcher Victoria Australia’s owner Barry Goldsmith took the opportunity to educate people about snakes.
“The snake saw them coming and watched as they unknowingly skipped past. Really goes to show that snakes are not aggressive and just need respect,” he wrote in his Facebook post.
As the business owner added in an interview with The Dodo, all snakes in his region are venomous “with the main ones being the eastern brown snake, the tiger snake, the Australian copperhead and the red-bellied black snake.”
Nevertheless, most incidents, according to Mr. Goldsmith could be prevented and avoided if people showed more respect to snakes.
“I’m trying to get people to respect the animal instead of putting fear into them. I’m forever trying to change attitudes towards them,” he added.
