A terminally-ill dog’s wish came true as he was sworn in as a K9 officer for a day before going on a mission to collect donations for a dog rescue organization with his human partners.
Washington-based Eddie the pit bull appeared content as he was honored by the Pasco Police department who accepted him in their K9 team for a day after the pooch was given just months to live due to his inoperable tumor.
After Eddie was provided with his own police uniform, he and his partner picked up donations raised for a dog rescue organization called Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue.
During their patrol, the pair also visited several shops in the Pasco area where Eddie was treated to delicious donuts.
In photos taken by police officers, Eddie appears to be proud to stand by the officers’ side while wearing a yellow police jacket.
As Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue revealed, they have been taking care of the dog during his final months.
“We have finished our amazing day with K9 Eddie and we are overwhelmed with the amount of support the community has shown him,” Pasco Police department confirmed in a statement after the successful outing with Eddie.
“Eddie was welcomed everywhere he went and shown nothing but love and affection all day… It was an honor working with you today, Eddie! We hope you had as much fun as we did.”
After the story went viral, people applauded the police for going out of their way to make sure Eddie got to spend a fun day as a K9.
