A 37-year-old daughter admitted her mother into a room at Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
Chantelle Boakye from Childwall, Liverpool, told that her mother was initially in A&E but later she was moved to a ward at Royal Liverpool University Hospital that she described as “disgusting” with “filthy floors”, “taped-up windows” and “a hole in the wall.”
She also claimed that it “looks like a squat or a derelict building”.
Boakye said: “She was initially in A&E because there wasn’t any beds available and then they moved her to this ward.
It was absolutely disgusting. She was that shocked she phoned me and told me it was a joke.”
“I can’t believe it, I’ve never seen anything like it before. It looked like a squat or a derelict building.”
She said that the room was extremely cold as the wind was coming into the room as the windows were with no blind on.
They covered the windows with tape.
She described the floor as filthy and there’s also a hole in one of the walls. She said she would never have admitted her to the hospital if she had known this before.
Boakye said: “I’m absolutely disgusted. I don’t think it’s acceptable for people that are sick and who could be at risk of infection to stay in rooms like that.
When I complained about it they said there was nothing they can do.”
Boakye shared the pictures of the hospital that show its poor condition.
The deputy chief nurse at Royal Liverpool University Hospital has apologized for the experience and has said that repairs will be made soon.
In 2017, Royal Liverpool University Hospital was due to replace but it has been two years and the plans have been delayed.
