A Wuhan official has admitted China was too slow in reacting to the novel coronavirus outbreak and confessed that they’re in “a state of guilt, remorse and self-reproach.
”
“Right now I’m in a state of guilt, remorse and self-reproach. If strict control measures had been taken earlier, the result would have been better than now,” Ma Guoqiang, the secretary of Wuhan’s ruling Communist Party, told CCTV.
Meanwhile, people both in China and in other parts of the world fear that the government is covering up the real death toll caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
As some crematorium workers have claimed, the Chinese authorities are cremating bodies without identifying the victims or adding them to the total count.
According to Initium, a news outlet from Hong Kong, workers from the center of the outbreak have admitted cremating bodies that haven’t been identified or added to the official record.
“This means there are patients who died from the virus, but were not added to the official record,” Deutsche Welle reporter William Yang said.
“While they have been more transparent about certain things related to the virus, they continue to be sketchy and unreliable in other aspects.”
In a recent turn of events, China has also been struck with yet another deadly virus amid the world’s battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic.
According to the reports, some 4,500 chickens died from a “highly pathogenic” strain of bird flu caused by the H5N1 virus.
The outbreak, which poses a whole new set of worries not only for people in China but worldwide, has origins at an animal farm in Shaoyang city, Hunan, which is located south from Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
While the virus isn’t likely to be transmitted to humans unless they are directly exposed to the contaminated environment or infected birds, it comes with a fatality rate of sixty percent in cases when it manages to infect human individuals.
According to Reuters, Chinese officials have ordered the culling of birds at the farm and nearby areas, whereas nearly 18,000 poultry were killed in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading.
