A passenger jet, which was flying from Izmir in Turkey to Sabiha Gokcen airport, snapped into three parts and burst into flames at the end of a runway, leaving three people dead and 179 injured.
Horrifying photos show the wreckage of the Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737’s fuselage and blood-soaked passengers, including 12 children, taking a bus after surviving the crash.
Fahrettin Koca, the Turkish health minister, confirmed three people passed away and 179 people injured.
The aircraft crashed into a road after skidding off the runway, with six crews and 177 passengers on board.
Footage revealed serious damage to the passenger plane, with fuselage seemed to be snapped into three parts.
“Unfortunately, we had thee citizens who lost their lives,” Mr. Koca said. “The number of patients in hospital is 179. The number of patients taken into intensive care units is six people.
“I can say that four patients underwent surgery.”
According to Governor Ali Yerlikaya, the aircraft had “slipped over 60 meters” after leaving the runway before it fell from a height of 130ft.
“The accident could have had more serious consequences. The plane made a hard landing due to bad weather conditions,” he added.
NTV reported that the plane caught fire after skidding but it had been extinguished.
Izmir city had been buffeted by heavy rainfalls and strong winds that day. The airport was closed and flights were redirected to the main airport of Istanbul.
Shocking photos show bloodied passengers on a bus.
This comes after another Pegasus aircraft skidded off the runway at the same airport in Istanbul. There were no injuries or deaths in that incident.
