Christine Sun Kim, a professional sign language artist, shared her disappointment towards Fox Sports, as they excluded her performance at the 2020 Super Bowl.
The sign language artist told the New York Times that she was angry and infuriated when she learned that her performance was not even on the list.
Christine also pointed out that it was supposed to be a bonus feed, which was dedicated to her performance.
Instead of that, her performance was cut off and replaced by displaying the close-ups of the players during each of the songs.
Christine also added that she was having second thoughts about her performance at the Super Bowl 2020, but she did it to show her support towards Colin Kaepernick.
Later on, she continued by saying that being a deaf individual in American soil has always been political and she went through some of her internal conflicts before taking her final step.
However, many artists and music sensations did not agree to perform at the Super Bowl last year as because they showed their support towards Colin Kaepernick.
Christine too thought it would have been a good idea for her if she did the same this year.
Christine also provided some information about deaf people on how they were killed by the police, which is similar to the individuals in the black community.
Therefore, Christine believed it was important for her to appear at the Super Bowl 2020, so that she can spread the awareness about individuals like her, along with the stigma and systematic barriers that are glued with their deafness.
That is why she accepted the invitation to take part in the Super Bowl 2020, alongside Demi Lovato and Yolanda Adams.
Even though she lacked a good deal of air time, the sign language artist exclaimed that she has pride.
This is because she is selected to perform at the Super Bowl 2020 and the performance will be displayed at the National Association of the Deaf’s YouTube Channel.
