Almost all of us can remember the iconic Tikes cars from our childhood which came mostly in the yellow and red color combo.
Doesn’t matter if you owned one or wanted to get one and never actually had one, we all have some memories related to those cars.
If you want to re-live the sensation of having a Tikes car or just want to end the inferiority complex you got because of not being allowed to buy one, you can now buy a grown-up version of the car.
This adult version of the car is street-legal and is available for sale on Auto Trader.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019, Tikes worked to convert 2011 Smart ForTwo into an exact replica of the famous toddler car, many times bigger of course.
The bodywork of this grown-up Tikes car is done in the same red and yellow colors as the original Tikes car used to be. To make it more Tikes-like, the car has large googly eyes on the windshield, a Tikes logo and even a custom-made license plate that reads “L2 TYKE.”
The whole conversion will cost you just $763 above the price of the stock Smart ForTwo. All the converted cars have low mileage and are in good condition, says Auto Trader.
In addition to the visual similarities with the classic miniature Tikes car, the adult version has a street-legal variant of the “fuss-fee transmission that Little Tikes Oupes are known for,” mated to a 0.8L automatic diesel engine.
Rory Reid, from Auto Trader’s, said: “It’s an iconic car that’s played a memorable role in the childhood lives of millions of people over four decades, and now UK car buyers have the chance to relive some of these memories but this time following the highway code.”
“This car is marked as a ‘high price’ by our new Price Indicator, but the valuation doesn’t account for the uniqueness and quirky nature of this particular find,” he added.
“So for any adults who are still big kids at heart and interested in buying, we recommend they speak to the dealer to find out about all of its amazing details.”
The online ad for the “toy shop approved vehicle” also makes it clear that this particular car is “completely road legal but can be pushed by friends.”
