Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League didn’t get blockbuster figures or best reviews but DC Entertainment has made an incredible comeback, thanks to their new superhero Aquaman!
The new movie has made an astounding $748.8 million at the global box office in a magnificent opening weekend, raking in $67 million.
But unusually for a superhero film, a major portion of the Aquaman audience comes from women over the age of 25.
You read that right! According to figures reported by Deadline, men are buying a smaller percentage of tickets just to see the ocean hero on the big screen. It was reported that it is the mothers in the audience that are outnumbering the fathers at viewings of the blockbuster with 52% to 48%.
On top of that, 82 percent of women are reported to have enjoyed the movie while only 60 percent of men said they did.
It is suggested that Momoa, who broke through in Game of Thrones, is a very attractive man indeed and can’t have hurt the film’s prospects.
It also seems the movie has fought its way through a whole host of selective reviews with New York Times saying whoever made the film shouldn’t have bothered and Rolling Stone calling it ‘shameless silliness.’
Wesley Morris from The New York Times said: “No wonder he [Momoa] rarely seems excited to be here. There’s nothing to be excited about.
“Aquaman is so much like parts of Thor and Black Panther and Avatar and The Jewel of the Nile and so reliant upon an ancient British legend that you don’t know why the people who made this movie bothered.”
Peter Travers from Rolling Stone said: “Aquaman is a mess of clashing tones and shameless silliness, but a relief after all the franchise’s recent superhero gloom.”
