A loving cat was caught on camera comforting his elderly owner with Alzheimer’s and cuddling in his arms as he was relaxing in an armchair.
As Patricia Wright explained, her husband Bob is a retired veterinarian with an undying passion for animals.
After the man was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s back in 2009, he has begun experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions and things haven’t always been easy for him.
Like a ray of sunlight, however, Mooshu the gentle cat entered Bob’s life in 2013 and it didn’t take the pair long before they became best friends.
“Bob kept asking for a cat in his lap, so I kept picking Mooshu up and putting him in Bob’s lap. Now he’s there all the time and he sleeps in his arms at night,” Patricia said in an interview with The Dodo.
“I kinda think he does know that his daddy needs him more now than before. When Bob gets his shower, Mooshu is the one who is in there meowing and rubbing against him like he’s trying to make sure he’s OK.”
While the elderly couple has another cat, Mooshu has become the protector that refuses to leave his owner’s side even at night.
When Mooshu is busy doing other things like eating and going to the CR, a robot cat that Patricia bought for Bob makes sure that the man doesn’t feel lonely.
“Bob was so happy with Moosh on his lap and it kept him so calm, that he wasn’t happy unless the cat was there. I had to buy him a robot cat to keep him company when Moosh was doing cat stuff,” she added.
As the wife went on to say, living with Alzheimer’s is hard and she can’t imagine her husband happy without Mooshu by his side.
“Moosh is the one thing that Bob still enjoys. He used to be a veterinarian, so animal contact is very important to him and Moosh willingly supplies it all the time,” Patricia concluded.
