Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their decision of stepping back from being ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family, on 8 January 2020.

Their exit is called Megxit: Meghan and Exit.

The Megxit will take place on 31 March 2020 after which they will become financially independent.

Last night, Canadian police confirmed that it would stop serving with the protection of Harry and Meghan, after Megxit.

Them stopping to serve would mean that the cost of timeless protection of the couple and their kid, Archie, will fall directly to the Metropolitan Police which is funded by the taxpayers.

And this is when the couple would not be living in the UK after Megxit.

 

They’ve decided to move to North America and pursue commercial careers.

As Harry and Meghan won’t be living in the UK or serving as the Royal Family, the British taxpayers refuse to pay for their security.

Taxpayers say that the couple should be paying for their own security as now they’re private citizens and will have their own income.

The Taxpayers’ Alliance also mentioned that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex cannot have both, they should either be working as royals with obligations or they should be private citizens with independence.

Journalist Penny Junor said that she understands that Canadians and Britishers do not want to pay for security but unlike other celebrities who pay for their own security, Harry didn’t ask to be born Royal, so he’s a target.

And that Prince Harry would definitely require protection as he is a high-value target for terrorists because of his service in Afganistan.

Currently, taxpayers are paying £600,000 for the royal protection officer’s team for Sussexes’.

Each one of them costs £100,000 including their salary, pensions, overseas allowance, accommodation, flight, and overtime.

And on moving overseas, this cost will increase greatly.

The annual bill for their security could even rise to £20m, as calculated by the Met Police.

 

The current protection force that serves the couple abroad and at home refused to comment on whether or not they would be protecting them after Megxit.
