A 42-year-old mother, from Scotland, has revealed she fell in love with her son’s best friend when she was 40 and he was 18.
Dawn Northey and her son’s best friend 20-year-old Takhari Aldridge, who is 22 years younger than her, live together at Dawn’s home.
Dawn says he is a great stepdad to her kids and her son Callum is happy for them.
Dawn and Takhari met in 2017 through Callum and instantly attracted to each other. When she was dropping Takhari home one afternoon, they kissed for the first time seven months after their first meeting.
They have been together since then and Callum has no problem with their relationship.
However, Takhari’s mother threw him out of her house after she learned about their relationship and he now lives with her.
Dawn told The Sun: “When I first met Takhari, I couldn’t believe I found an 18-year-old attractive. Thankfully, he fancied me too in the end and now we’re head over heels in love.”
Callum and Takhari met online through Xbox games in 2014 and Dawn was married at the time.
One day, she drove Callum to Takhari’s house in Glasgow and met Takhari for the first time.
In 2018, she divorced Callum’s dad after being together for 15 years and moved to a new house.
Takhari came to stay with them after seven weeks and Dawn was excited to see him.
She said: “I kept stealing glances at him around the house. Every day, I had to tell myself I was too old for him and to stop being daft. I thought it was just a silly crush.”
A week later, when they were chatting in the car while driving Takhari back home to the Midlands, Takhari kissed her.
She said: “I couldn’t believe it. I had no idea he fancied me too. I was over the moon. Later that night, he texted me saying he’d been dying to kiss me from the moment we met.”
Takhari’s mother threw him out of her house after six days when she learned about their relationship.
Dawn then told her son about her relationship with Takhari and when he said he was fine with it, they started living together.
Dawn said people condemn their relationship but they ignore them.
She said strangers give them dirty looks when they hold each other’s hands in public and a family member of her even accused her of grooming Takhari and threatened to call the police.
She told the Sun: “One day, Takhari injured his knuckle and we had to go the hospital. The nurse said ‘I’ll check your son’s hand now.’”
“I felt so embarrassed and told her I was his partner, not his mum. She apologised and said it was because I looked so much older.”
Despite this, they are very much in love and happy together.
