81-year-old Judie Shape was seen waving to her daughter from inside a virus-riddled nursing home linked to 19 deaths caused by coronavirus.
Shape, who tested positive for the killer virus, resides at Life Care Center in Kirkland. Her family members were seen talking to her on the phone, looking at each other through the window and blowing kisses.
Alarming signs emerged that the nursing home could transform into a coronavirus hotbed as over 50 residents and staff developed symptoms.
The nursing home was given tests over a week after the first case was confirmed.
The heartwarming yet heartbreaking photos emerged on the day authorities announced the banning of large gatherings across the affected area.
Washington Gov Jay Inslee also prohibited activities involving over 250 people.
“This is not just your ordinary flu,” Inslee stated. “This demands a response consisted with the nature of the threat.”
The Seattle public school system also announced closure of schools.
The coronavirus outbreak has spread to around 40 states, with New Mexico and Arkansas reporting their first confirmed cases.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy Infectious diseases, said: “Bottom line, it’s going to get worse.”
He also said that if mild cases are counted, the mortality rate could be about 1 percent, “roughly 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.”
Dr. Jeff Duchin from Seattle also said: “We expect a large-scale outbreak in weeks, and this will be a very difficult time.
“It’s similar to what you might think of as an infectious-disease equivalent of a major earthquake that´s going to shake us for weeks and weeks.”
Inslee also said authorities have the power to crack down on individuals or groups who ignore the directive but also said he expects everyone to follow the order.
