A footage revealing quarantined Italians standing on balconies and chanting ‘don’t give up’ is seen online.
The clip shot in housing blocks in Casoria shows residents trying to keep their spirits high by chanting as well as blasting out several football songs as all of them stay indoors amid the coronavirus outbreak.
In the video, they can be heard singing that they would stay at home, that night entire Casoria was united in a chorus, and that the people would never give up.
They chant in unison before chanting melodies from Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli, the local football team, with the lyrics saying people like them would never give up.
They also boosted their morale by singing come to Naples, come to Italy, forever. And then they sang a melody representing their unity and asking everyone to come out on their balconies.
They were also singing that the virus they were facing would not defeat them.
The Italian government urged residents in Naples to stay indoors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Chanting and singing have also been captured in other Italian cities. Residents in Siena, Tuscany gave a rendition of the canto Della verbena.
A social media user shared the video on Twitter and wrote that people of his hometown Siena sang a well-known song from their balconies along the empty street in order to warm their hearts during the Covid-19 lockdown in Italy.
Italy’s lockdown has implied that near to sixteen million people are in quarantine with each shop closed except supermarkets and pharmacies. This comes after more than 1,800 people died and above 25,000 remain affected by Covid-19.
