Celebrity couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively just stepped up in order to do their part in helping the people who have been “brutally impacted” by the COVID-19 pandemic that has been raging.
The Deadpool star shared a post on his Twitter and Instagram accounts on March 16 announcing that he and his wife are donating $1 million to two food bank organizations operating across the United States and Canada amid the COVID-19 crisis.
“Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and love income families,” Reynolds, 43, stated in his message. “Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA.”
In typical Reynolds fashion, he tried to end his post on a funny note by adding, “(Hugh Jackman‘s # is 1-555-?-HUGH).”
“I think we can all agree, Covid-19 is an *sshole,” he captioned the post, as he urged followers to go to the Feeding America and Food Banks Canada’s websites.
Reynolds and Lively are just the latest among celebrities who decided to step up and donate to those who may have been hit the hardest when it comes to the economic impact of the virus.
Justin Bieber said in an Instagram video in February that he “made a donation to support” the Beijing Chunmiao Children Aid Foundation, a Chinese charity focused on children’s welfare, while the virus was raging across China.
“Watching the news I couldn’t imagine how scary it would be if a new disease was effecting my wife and my family and friends,” the singer said at the time. “China we stand with you as a collective humanity… Whether it be this or the fires of Australia we all need to be there for each other.”
Designer Donatella Versace and her daughter Allegra Versace Beck also donated 200,000 euros to the intensive care unit at Milan’s San Raffaele hospital even as Italy instituted a lockdown on March 10 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this disease and to all the doctors and medical staff who have been working heroically non-stop in the past weeks in the effort to take care of our loved ones,” both mother and daughter said in a statement. “This is when we, as a society, need to stand together and care for one another.”
JJ Watt of the Houston Texans along with wife Kealia Ohai had also donated $350,000 to the Houston Food Bank. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and fiancé Tom Bernthal also launched the COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Feeding Families in cooperation with their local food bank to make sure that families remained fed during the crisis.
After the NBA suspended the season because of the coronavirus, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love and New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson made an offer to financially support the staff of their respective teams’ home arenas.
