Comedian Kevin T.
Porter took to Twitter to ask people ‘the most insane stories [they’ve] heard’ about DeGeneres. The effort was to raise money for the Los Angeles Food Bank and the response Kevin received was huge.
Kevin wrote: ”Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about. She is also notoriously one of the meanest people alive.”
”Respond to this tweet with the most insane stories you have heard about Ellen being mean & I’ll match every [story] w/ $2 to @LAFoodBank.”
One user claimed a former head writer for The Ellen DeGeneres show Karen Kilgariff was ‘fired’ because she ‘wouldn’t cross the picket line.’
‘When Karen wouldn’t cross the picket line she was fired and Ellen never spoke to her again,’ they wrote.
Another claimed that Ellen never greeted one of her friends who had written for the host for two years. She wrote: ”My friend wrote for the Ellen show for two years and told me Ellen didn’t greet her once. In fact, upon employment, staff were told they weren’t allowed to talk to her.”
TV writer Benjamin Siemon allegedly said: ‘Everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower.’
‘A new staff member was told ‘every day she picks someone different to really hate. It’s not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she’ll be mean to someone else the next day. They didn’t believe it but it ended up being entirely true.’
One user who claimed to wait for Ellen at the Los Angeles vegan eatery Real Food Daily, said that the 62-year-old host ”wrote a letter to the owner & complained about [the waitress’] chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand).”
”I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morning, almost got me fired.”
Writer Alison Freer recalled the incident when she had been working for a production on the Warner Brothers set and Ellen was at the same place as her show was filmed there.
She wrote, ”[It] was our showrunner’s 50th Bday. Caterer grilling steaks outside for special fancy lunch. Ellen sent someone over to demand they stop, as she doesn’t eat meat. She’s the worst.”
Most of the people shared the negative experience they have had with Ellen but actor Jordan James Smith called her ‘really nice’ recalling the moment when he worked with the host.
He wrote: ”I once worked on an American Express commercial with her and Beyoncé. We talked and I made a joke that made them both laugh. She was actually really nice.”
”Oh nice, I’m glad you had a good experience with her!’ replied Kevin.
