David Cruz, the former boyfriend of pop star Jennifer Lopez, has died of heart disease.
‘Get on the Floor’ hitmaker dated David for almost a decade, starting from high school before they split up in the mid-90s.
David was taken to the Mount Sinai West Hospital where he took his last breath at 51. While the report says that he died of heart disease, there is no further information available regarding his death.
David and Jenifer started dating in 1984 when he was 16, and she was 15 before they split up in 1995 when Lopez’s career skyrocketed to fame.
She had been a backup dancer for the majority of their relationship. It is said that her fame got in between their relationship.
Before the singer was well-known, they were photographed together in numerous events. A person close to David said that he was kind and loving. He was always very open and never held on to anything. He helped raise his stepson and was a devoted father.
During a 2004 interview, Jennifer reflected on her romance with David. She said that he is a good friend and knows her better than anybody else. She added that she has many memories of David as nine years is like a lifetime. They grew up together and still live in the neighborhood in the Bronx.
She said that whenever she meets him, they will remain in touch for a while through calls and messages.
While it is said to be her first relationship, she has had three marriages after that. She married Ojani Noa in 1997, and they split up in 1998. Then she married Chris Judd in 2001 that also came to an end in 2002. Her third marriage was to Marc Anthony that lasted from 2004 to 2011. Her relationship with David lasted longer than her three marriages put together.
She is currently engaged to retired baseball pro-Alex Rodriguez.
