NHS volunteer who has been delivering food to the vulnerable and elderly during the coronavirus lockdown left shattered when her car’s tyres were slashed.
Helen Crouch, 41, said that she started crying after seeing someone has damaged her car’s tire on the main street in Thornton. The incident happened between about 7 pm on Saturday and 9 am on Sunday and police started searching for the accused.
A spokesman for the force said: “We have had a report of damage to a vehicle parked in Main Street, Thornton. This is believed to have happened between about 7 pm on March 28 and 9 am the next day.”
Helen who is a single mum has set up the Bagworth and Thornton Coronavirus Community Response Team to help others and she delivers meals, prescriptions and groceries to vulnerable people.
She told the Leicester Mercury: “I am a strong person but I just stood there and cried.I can’t believe anyone could do this.”
“I think someone has deliberately targeted my car to try to stop me doing what I am doing. It is sick beyond belief. All four tires have holes in. It looks like someone has used a big screwdriver to inflict the damage.”
She revealed she had to leave her car where the incident had occurred and felt extremely sad thinking how could someone do this to her.
She added: “My car broke down on Saturday so I had to leave it there [on Main Street]. I had just delivered a Shepherd’s pie to an old person in the village.”
“I saw all four tires were flat as a pancake. I got out and I could clearly see the puncture marks in each tire.”
She filmed the video of her damaged car and posted on Facebook. She said in the clip, “Do you know what? I’ve done two weeks of response work in these villages and somebody has stabbed every single one of my tyres on a car that has broken down and that I need. I hope you are proud of yourself. £450. I have just lost my business. Thanks a lot.”
Thornton resident Matt Goddard decided to form a Gofundme page with a target of £500 which was completed in a span of two hours to help Helen in replacing her car’s tyres. Matt is a firefighter with the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service based at Lutterworth.
