Police were accused by a peer of heavy-handling interpretation of coronavirus advice.
Some people accused police of over-enforcement that includes banning them from shopping Easter eggs and shamed people walking through drones.
Lord Sumption, the former high court judge, criticized Derbyshire Police for insulting the traditions of the policing with disgraceful efforts of shaming people who were exercising in the countryside.
Moreover, police officers were also seen warning the shopkeepers not to sell Easter eggs as a part of overzealous enforcement amidst the lockdown. It is also revealed that forces might even cut arrests and overlook crimes due to the pandemic.
Officers in a different part of the country have stopped retailers from selling stuff that they consider is non-essential, including chocolate gifts, but there is no official guidance from the government.
Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary in his daily press conference, said that police should be using their common sense while applying these rules and the public should be following the guidance to their spirit.
Additionally, Lord Sumption revealed that in some regions, the police are stopping people from travelling to exercise in the open country, which is not entirely against the regulation as the ministers have requested people that they would appreciate they do not go out for the same.
The police only have the power to enforce rules and regulations that is not under the government’s guidance. And this act by the officers has brought shame.
In fact, they have even wrecked some open spots so that people would not visit, which is disgraceful. While it is important that serious breach of government guidance should be fine, currently the officers are taking away the limited freedom that people of this country have.
