A 6-week-old baby has tragically passed away from coronavirus after being rushed to the hospital where they “could not be revived.
”
According to the experts, the Connecticut baby is likely one of the youngest victims to have passed away from COVID-19 in the world. It is unclear whether the newborn had any underlying health conditions that contributed to his passing or not.
As Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont revealed in a statement, the baby, whose gender and identity were not revealed, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“It is with heartbreaking sadness today that we can confirm the first pediatric fatality in Connecticut linked to #COVID-19,” the governor wrote.
“A 6-week-old newborn from the Hartford area was brought unresponsive to a hospital late last week and could not be revived.”
In a string of touching Twitter post, Lamont added:
“Testing confirmed last night that the newborn was COVID-19 positive. This is absolutely heartbreaking. We believe this is one of the youngest lives lost anywhere due to complications relating to COVID-19.
“This is a virus that attacks our most fragile without mercy. This also stresses the importance of staying home and limiting exposure to other people. Your life and the lives of others could literally depend on it. Our prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”
The news of the tragic death follows as the U.S. has reported over 240,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 6,000 deaths.
