Doctors have managed to save the life of a baby whose mother has passed away from coronavirus at 32 weeks into pregnancy.
33-year-old Viviane Albuquerque from Brazil was rushed to Recife’s Unimed Hospital after she started suffering from COVID-19 symptoms while pregnant.
While the mother was placed into ICU due to her sensitive state, her condition continued to decline and she got intubated.
In order to ensure the survival of Viviane’s baby, the doctors performed a C-section before placing the tot in the intensive care unit to recover.
Unfortunately, the baby’s mother has not recovered after being intubated. She passed away on April 5, one day after her baby was delivered.
“She was a very hardworking person, she was going to be a law graduate in the middle of the year. She was an excellent person, we had been together for four years. Our son is called Erik and he is recovering. He was born after eight months,” Erik Silva, Viviane’s partner, said according to Folha de Pernambuco.
As the father revealed, his newborn son had suffered a cardiac arrest but has managed to recover from the setback.
According to Unimed Hospital, little Erik is “receiving all the necessary from the medical team.”
The mother’s death follows shortly after a US mum-of-four had tragically passed away from COVID-19 before she could say farewell to her loved ones.
47-year-old Laneeka Barksdale from Michigan was a loving mom-of-four and a skilled ballroom dancer who self-quarantined after contracting coronavirus and fearing she could infect her family members.
According to the reports, the mother thought she had caught a common cold before her symptoms worsened and her body temperature spiked to 102 degrees.
As her brother confirmed, Laneeka refused to let her family come in touch with her and drove herself to the hospital as she began suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
Nine days after admitting herself to the hospital, the mother has passed away without being able to say goodbye to her family.
“She didn’t even want my other sister to drive her to the hospital. She was in really bad shape and was barely able to breathe, but she didn’t want anyone else exposed,” Omari Barksdale, the woman’s brother, explained.
