In an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus, Paris banned the daytime exercise.
In this capital city of France, people are banned from exercising outdoors between 10:00 am to 7:00 pm from Wednesday, April 8th, 2020 on.
Anne Hidalgo, the city Mayor, along with Didier Lallement, city’s police chief laid out the rules in a joint press release, which highlighted that every excursion avoided can help combat against the pandemic.
Emmanuel Gregoire, the deputy mayor of Paris, further explained that rules are not appliable for people who are taking their kids or children out for short walks.
He said that feedback on their services and police on the ground has been clear and consistent. There are too many people outdoor at the same time.
Too many joggers are seen outside during peak hours. The primary objective of this ban is to limit the overcrowding.
He explained that the city is banning jogging during the day, not restricting people from leaving their house. Children exceptionally are allowed to leave home for a while during the day, and so are animals. The aim is to avoid joggers at the end of the morning and during noon.
France has one of the highest COVID-19 death tolls in the world and been under strict lockdown measures for the last one month. The country, as of now has witnessed over 8,900 death due to coronavirus.
For people to leave the house, they should carry a document stating one of the allowable reasons including shopping for essential items, exercising within 1 km of their homes or medical appointment.
Over the course of the month, the police have fined hundreds of people for breaking these rules and the Mayor said that any relaxation would impact the collective efforts made by the country so far.
