Everybody knows that the Cold War period was traumatic for both the soldiers as well as the citizens.
America was scared for the loss of their possessions, for the loss of their homes, and the most, for loss of their lives.
They were living under the fear of a nuclear war that was approaching.
As per the stats recorded in the 1960s, with the fear of a nuclear war awaiting, almost 70% of the people had built around 200,000 shelters.
Now, this is a rough estimation because we are not aware of the true numbers. The shelters are not visible above the land, and people did not prefer talking about them.
Since bunkers and shelters had become essential in those times, people had started making them with preferences.
While some families only had their bunkers equipped with the essential commodities and facilities like running water taps, beds, and washrooms, there were people who had different ideas.
Some people preferred taking all the facilities down with them along with the perfect decor.
One such person was Girard B. “Jerry,” the owner of Avon cosmetics and several other mega-companies. He had enough fortune to get a shelter he wanted, and so he did.
He built an extravagant underground shelter, and it is back on the market. The shelter was recently listed for a huge amount of $18 million.
The shelter is spread in 500 square feet of space, about 25 feet under the surface.
Jerry had built the house in 1970, as he feared it was the end of the country, which could have become a reality. He also wanted to explain to people what life is like living under the ground.
He moved to his underground residence in the year 1970 soon after it was made and lived there till the 1980s when he had died.
The house is nothing less than a piece of art.
